As we can all see, the current position regarding COVID-19 is evolving at an alarming rate. Central government’s next update will be later today, but with the information currently coming through media regarding the rate of infection I don’t think any of us would expect the rules for the Tiers to be relaxed.
Current RFU guidance already prohibits rugby for adults, and since that last update local infection rates have risen alarmingly. The local Safeguarding Lead for Oxfordshire RFU is advising we err on the side of caution. The RFU has scheduled their next Community Update on rules for Tuesday, 5th, and until that update, we have reluctantly taken the decision to suspend all group rugby activity organised by Bicester RUFC.
The Club will continue to review our position in the light of any new information we receive and undertake to keep our members fully informed through our website (www.bicesterrufc.co.uk) and social media pages (#BicesterRUFC).
Our next planned update is after the board and committee meet next week to discuss any updates from the RFU. Obviously our keenest wish is to provide every one of our members with the chance to play the game they love. But this is about people’s lives, and for the moment the risks outweigh the benefits.
Wishing you all a very Happy New Year, may it bring the relief we so look forward to.
